วันมาฆบูชา ตรงกับวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ กลางเดือน 3 หรือประมาณเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ แต่หากเป็นปีอธิกมาส (ปีที่มีเดือน 8 สองหน) วันมาฆบูชาจะเลื่อนไปเป็น วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ กลางเดือน 4 หรือประมาณเดือนมีนาคม
วันมาฆบูชา ย่อมาจากคำว่า "มาฆปุรณมีบูชา" แปลว่า "การบูชาพระในวันเพ็ญเดือน 3 ถือเป็นวันจาตุรงคสันนิบาต คือ การประชุมอันประกอบด้วยองค์ 4 ซึ่งเป็นเหตุการณ์อัศจรรย์เกิดขึ้นพร้อมกันในสมัยพุทธกาล คือ
1. พระสงฆ์จำนวน 1,250 รูป ซึ่งจาริกไปเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนาในสถานที่ต่าง ๆ เดินทางมาเผ้าพระพุทธเจ้า ณ เวฬุวันมหาวิหาร กรุงราชคฤห์ แคว้นมคธ
2. พระสงฆ์จำนวน 1,250 รูปเหล่านี้ ล้วนเป็นพระอรหันต์ และได้รับการบวชจากพระพุทธเจ้าโดยตรง ด้วยวิธีเอหิภิกขุอุปสัมปทา
3. พระสงฆ์จำนวน 1,250 รูป ต่างมาประชุมพร้อมเพรียงกันโดยมิได้มีการนัดหมาย
4. วันที่มาประชุม ตรงกับวันเพ็ญเดือนมาฆะ (วันเพ็ญเดือน 3) เป็นวันที่พระพุทธเจ้าได้ทรงแสดงพระธรรมเทศนา อันเป็นหัวใจของพระพุทธศาสนา คือ โอวาทปาฏิโมกข์
โอวาทปาฏิโมกข์ คือ ข้อธรรมย่ออันเป็นหลักหรือหัวใจสำคัญของพระพุทธศาสนา 3 ประการ ได้แก่1. ไม่ทำความชั่วทั้งปวง2.ทำความดีให้ถึงพร้อม3. ทำจิตใจให้บริสุทธิ์ผ่องใสการปลงอายุสังขารหลังจากที่พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ได้ตรัสรู้และสั่งสอนพระธรรมมาเป็นระยะเวลา 45 ปี พระองค์ทรงปลงอายุสังขาร คือตั้งพระทัยว่า "ต่อแต่นี้ไปอีก 3 เดือน เราจักเสด็จดับขันธปรินิพพาน" การปลงอายุสังขาร ตรงกับวันมาฆบูชาในปีที่พระพุทธองค์มีพระชนมายุ 80 พระชันษา
ด้วยเหตุนี้ ในวันมาฆบูชา ชาวพุทธจึงถือว่าเป็นวันที่มีความสำคัญเกี่ยวเนื่องกับพระพุทธเจ้า รวม 2 ประการ คือ เป็นวันที่แสดงโอวาทปาฏิโมกข์ และ เป็นวันปลงอายุสังขาร
ประวัติการประกอบพิธีมาฆบูชาในหนังสือพระราชพิธีสิบสองเดือน อันเป็นบทพระราชนิพนธ์ของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว มีเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับการประกอบราชกุศลมาฆบูชาไว้ดังนี้
การมาฆบูชานี้ แต่เดิมก็ไม่ได้เคยทำมา พึ่งเกิดขึ้นเมื่อแผ่นดินพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงตามแบบโบราณบัณฑิตนิยมไว้ว่า วันมาฆปุรณมีพระจันทร์เสวยฤกษ์มาฆะเต็มบริบูรณ์ เป็นวันที่พระอรหันต์พุทธสาวก 1,250 รูป ได้ประชุมกันพร้อมด้วยองค์สี่ประการ เรียกว่า จาตุรงคสันนิบาติ พระพุทธเจ้าได้ตรัสเทศนาโอวาทปฏิโมกข์ในที่ประชุมสงฆ์ เป็นการประชุมใหญ่และเป็นการอัศรรย์ในพระพุทธศาสนา นักปราชญ์จึงได้ถือเอาเหตุนั้นกอบการสักการบูชาพระพุทธเจ้าและพระอรหันต์ 1,250 พระองค์นั้น ให้เป็นที่ตั้งแห่งความเลื่อมใสและสังเวช

วันไหว้ คือวันสิ้นปี จะมีการไหว้ 3 ครั้ง คือ
ตอนเช้ามืดจะไหว้ "ไป่เล่าเอี๊ย" เป็นการไหว้เทพเจ้าต่างๆ เครื่องไหว้คือ เนื้อสัตว์สามอย่าง (ซาแซ) ได้แก่ หมู เป็ด ไก่ หรือเพิ่มตับ ปลา เป็นเนื้อสัตว์ห้าอย่าง (โหงวแซ) เหล้า น้ำชา และกระดาษเงินกระดาษทอง

วันเที่ยว หรือ วันถือ คือวันขึ้นปีใหม่ เป็นวันที่หนึ่ง ของเดือนที่หนึ่งของปี วันนี้ชาวจีนจะถือธรรมเนียมโบราณที่ยังปฏิบัติสืบต่อกันมาถึงปัจจุบันคือ "ไป่เจีย" เป็นการไหว้ขอพรและอวยพรจากญาติผู้ใหญ่และผู้ที่เคารพรัก โดยนำส้มสีทองไปมอบให้ เหตุที่ให้ส้มก็เพราะส้มออกเสียงภาษาจีนแต้จิ๋วว่า "กิก" ซึ่งไปพ้องกับคำว่าความสุขหรือโชคลาภ เพราะฉะนั้นการให้ส้มจึงเหมือนนำความสุขหรือโชคลาภไปให้ จะมอบส้มจำนวน 4 ผล ห่อด้วยผ้าเช็ดหน้าของผู้ชาย เหตุที่เรียกวันนี้ว่าวันถือคือ เป็นวันที่ชาวจีนถือว่าเป็นสิริมงคล งดการทำบาป จะมีคติถือบางอย่าง เช่น ไม่พูดจาไม่ดีต่อกัน ไม่ทวงหนี้กัน ไม่จับไม้กวาด และจะแต่งกายด้วยเสื้อผ้าใหม่แล้วออกเยี่ยมอวยพรและพักผ่อนนอกบ้าน

วันเด็กแห่งชาติ

ตามพจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๕ ได้ให้ความหมาย ของคำว่า "เด็ก" ไว้ดังนี้

เด็ก หมายถึง คนที่มีอายุยังน้อย ยังเล็ก
เด็กชาย คือ คำนำเรียกเด็กผู้ชายที่มีอายุไม่เกิน ๑๔ ปีบริบูรณ์
เด็กหญิง คือ คำนำเรียกเด็กผู้หญิงที่มีอายุไม่เกิน ๑๔ ปีบริบูรณ์

เมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2498 ได้เกิดปฏิญญาว่าด้วยสิทธิเด็กขึ้น โดยองค์การสหประชาชาติทำให้ทั่วโลกเกิดความตื่นตัว และเห็นพ้องต้องกันว่า ควรจะให้ความสำคัญแก่เด็ก ๆ ของตนมากขึ้น การขานรับในการนี้จากประเทศต่าง ๆ เป็นไปอย่างกว้างขวาง ในปีเดียวกันนั้นเอง ประเทศต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลกไม่น้อยกว่า 40 ประเทศต่างก็จัดงานฉลองวันเด็กแห่งชาติของประเทศตนขึ้น โดยกำหนดวันจันทร์แรกของเดือนตุลาคมของทุกปี เป็นวันเด็กแห่งชาติ

The uses and recommended daily intake of vitamin C are matters of on-going debate, with RDI ranging from 45 to 95 mg/day. Proponents of megadosage propose from 200 to upwards of 2000 mg/day. A recent meta-analysis of 68 reliable antioxidant supplementation experiments, involving a total of 232,606 individuals, concluded that consuming additional ascorbate from supplements may not be as beneficial as thought.
